Because He Came

This is an excerpt from President Monson's talk from the recent Christmas devotional entitled Because He Came.

Because He came, there is meaning to our mortal existence.
Because He came, we know how to reach out to those in trouble or distress, wherever they may be.
Because He came, death has lost its sting, the grave its victory. We will live again because He came.

We must try to believe

This is yesterday's quote. It was so good i couldn't not share it. My mother gave a wonderful lesson in sunday school and shared a talk from President Uchtdorf from conference in October of 2009. It was FULL of beautiful quotes, that i'll be sharing more of! ha. This is yesteday's. :)

My dear brothers and sisters, don’t get discouraged if you stumble at times. Don’t feel downcast or despair if you don’t feel worthy to be a disciple of Christ at all times. The first step to walking in righteousness is simply to try. We must try to believe. Try to learn of God: read the scriptures; study the words of His latter-day prophets; choose to listen to the Father, and do the things He asks of us. Try and keep on trying until that which seems difficult becomes possible—and that which seems only possible becomes habit and a real part of you.

He cometh into the world

2 Nephi 9:21 says

And he cometh into the world that he may save all men if they will hearken unto his voice; for behold, he suffereth the pains of all men, yea, the pains of every living creature, both men, women, and children, who belong to the family of Adam.

Beautiful scripture! It's almost Christmas! Yay!! Love you!

God is not dead, nor doth He sleep

On sunday, my mother sang in a beautiful Christmas fireside with the whole stake. They did so well! Every ward choir from the stake came together to sing several songs, and one of them was "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day." The fourth verse is this:

"Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
“God is not dead, nor doth He sleep;
The wrong shall fail, the right prevail
With peace on earth, good will to men.”

I was so impressed with this beautiful message. God is NOT dead, nor doth he sleep, the wrong shall FAIL, the right PREVAIL!

I love you!

Establishing Celestial Traditions

Sorry, I missed a couple days. But they were good quotes, so I thought I'd share.

Elder Richard J Maynes said in the last conference:

"Learning, teaching and practicing the principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ in our homes helps create a culture where the Spririt can dwell. Through establishing these celestial traditions in our homes, we will be able to overcome the false traditions of the world and learn to put the needs and concerns of others first."

Classic Mormon Family ;)

Also in the last conference, President Eyring said:

"Your copy of the Book of Mormon may be hidden from your view by cares and attention to all you have accumulated in your journey. I plead with you to drink deeply and often from it's pages. It has in it the fulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ, which is the only way home to God."

The Truth Of All Things

Moroni 10:4-5 says:

4 And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with dreal intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.

5 And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things.

This is such a powerful scripture! If we ever need to know the truth of anything, all you have to do is ask. And we can honestly know the truth about anything in the world.

I love you!

If ye keep my commandments

D&C 14:7 say "And, if you keep my commandments and endure to the end you shall have eternal life, which gift is the greatest of all the gifts of God."

That's a pretty incredible promise for something that seems so simple. At the Christmas Devotional, President Monson noted that of all the gifts we can give this Christmas season, none are as amazing as the gift we receive from our Savior; forgiveness, resurection, eternal life. All we have to do it live worthy of it.

The Life of Jesus Christ Bible Videos

Last night at the Christmas Devotional, President Eyring announced that they were making videos about bible stories. They were to be a gift to the world from them! They showed a clip of a few of the videos and they were very neat. Obviously they were very well done and are as acurate as they possibly can be according to the King James Version of the Bible. This is what it says on the website. (which is http://lds.org/bible-videos/?lang=eng )

The Life of Jesus Christ Bible Videos will provide you and your family a new and meaningful way to learn about Jesus Christ. In addition to reading about Jesus and His teachings, you will be able to explore biblical environments, watch scripture-based videos and photo slideshows, and discover interesting facts about biblical accounts. These videos, which are faithful to the King James Version of the Bible, are a new way to experience Bible stories through sight, sound, and touch.

First Presidency Christmas Devotional

Last night we went to the First Presidency Christmas Devotional and it was so beautiful! I loved the talks and the beautiful decorations. It was very wonderful. Anyway, here's a quote from President Monson's talk!

"There is no better time than now, this very Christmas season, for all of us to rededicate ourselves to the principles taught by Jesus the Christ. Let it be a time that lights the eyes of... children and puts laughter on their lips. Let it be a time for lifting the lives of those who live in loneliness. Let it be a time for calling our families together, for feeling a closeness to those who are near to us and a closeness also to those who are absent."

Our wonderful prophet!! :)

We got to walk through temple square afterwards with all the lights on! It was beuatiful!

Look unto me

D&C 6:36 says "Look unto me in every thought; doubt not, fear not"

The Savior is constantly looking out for us in everything we do. We have no reason to fear!

Christmas means Christ and family.

Several General Authorities from around the world were asked what their Christmas traditions were. Elder Michael John U. Teh, from the Philippines, said

"Christmas for me means Christ and my family. It is an opportunity to recommit myself to do better in my relationship with our Heavenly Father and the Savior."

I know it's a little early but it's time to start thinkgin about Christmas! And what a great way to spend this Christmas season. Let's take these next few weeks and do the same, think about our family and friends and most importantly our Savior

Be Confident in Him

Elder Christofferson was recently in Argentina. In a report of his visit is was recorded...

There are times, Elder Christofferson said, when we feel like we can’t go on. But, he said,

“The Lord gives us the strength to take that [next] step, and then another, and another. Sometimes it’s step by step. He gives us strength now to make the next one. Be confident in Him.”

He said that the Lord shows us our weakness so that we can become strong. He helps us to see our faults and failings so that we can repent, correct, and improve.

“I understand you have much faith,” he said. “But we can have more.” He said throughout our lives we should be feasting on the word of God, especially the Book of Mormon, to build our faith in Christ. “He lives. He is at the head of the Church. He guides the Church. I have seen it. His grace is sufficient to forgive and sanctify each of us and all those we carry to Him."

Men's Hearts Shall Fail Them

This is really beautiful. Thank you Elder Nelson.

Yay for being Healthy!

The past few days, Justin and I have been sick! It's  been terrible, but we made it through. Today, i'm grateful for my health and for a Father in Heaven that loves us enough to not only give us spiritual laws, but physical ones as well. I'm pretty sure that doesn't mean we'll never get sick, but i'm certain that if I didn't follow the Word of Wisdom, I'd be a lot worse off!

D&C 89: 18-20 says,

18 And all saints who remember to keep and do these sayings, walking in obedience to the commandments, shall receive health in their navel and marrow to their bones;
19 And shall find wisdom and great treasures of knowledge, even hidden treasures;
20 And shall run and not be weary, and shall walk and not faint.

I love you!!

Perfect Example

In October conference of 2011, Elder Jose L Alonso, of the Seventy, said "The prophets have declared that true happiness is found in following the example and teachings of Christ. He is our Savior, He is our teacher, and He is the perfect example." I am so grateful for that perfect example and hope to be able to be an example as well.

I am a Mormon!

A few months ago I was at Education Week at BYU. I was in a class about general conference. We were being reminded about the last two conferences and the recurring themes. One was that we were being overly encouraged to share the gospel through the many media outlets that we have.

In April conference of 2011, President Uchtdorf said "With so many social media resources and a multitude of more or less useful gadgets at our disposal, sharing the good news of the gospel is easier and the effects more far-reaching than ever before. My dear young friends, perhaps the Lord’s encouragement to “open [your] mouths” might today include “use your hands” to blog and text message the gospel to all the world! But please remember, all at the right time and at the right place.

During the class, one lady raised her hand and said she had been sending out a daily text message to her kids and family and friends that had a spiritual thought. She said they loved it and would frequently forward it to all of their friends too. It got me thinking a little and I decided to try it out. So since August, I've been sending out a text with a scripture or quote. I feel like it's been a success! Most seem to like them, and notice when they don't come. One of the people I sent them to said I should make a blog out of daily texts, so here it is!

President Uchtdorf continued.. "Brothers and sisters, with the blessings of modern technology, we can express gratitude and joy about God’s great plan for His children in a way that can be heard not only around our workplace but around the world. Sometimes a single phrase of testimony can set events in motion that affect someone’s life for eternity."

The purpose of my texts, and now this blog is to share my testimony with the world, in hopes that it will help some one out there! I have to admit, it's boosting my own testimony as well! I've always felt my testimony grow when I share it with others, so I'm grateful for the opportunity to share it this way!

I hope you enjoy reading my thoughts and I hope that maybe one day, I'll write a message that was meant for you!
